Default High priced clothes

My son will only wear clothes from stores like Hollister, Abercrombie and Buckle. I could get a whole outfit for what he pays for a pair of jeans! I wish he didn't care so much about brands, and that he had more appreciation for how much these items cost. How is this acomplished?

Wink clothing

Would be nice to say "set an example" hahaha! Can't do that though usually because after you buy them something........you are in rags

Seriously, open communication is the key. Don't be afraid to talk openly with your kids about finances and values. The key to communication is that is has to start when they are extremely young. Talk with them about everything...........keep communication lines open from the toddler stage. You child will continue to talk to you even as he/she grows.

Default Little or much--offer the choice...and communicate

Another good way might be to set a dollar amount you intend to spend. Then offer them the choice of buying a FEW things from those pricey stores or MANY things from stores where clothing is more affordable. Also, I think that communication is the key to helping him understand household finances.

My daughter and I were just recently shopping at charlotte Russe and she commented that we bought 2 jeans and 3 shirts and necklaces and earrings to match for the price of one pair of jeans and a t-shirt at Abercrombie. I think it dawned on her that she can look just as good and be happy, and get MORE clothes if she started shopping at other places. Not everything has to be Abercrombie and Hollister.
