My 4-year old son began playing video games just a few weeks ago. (We tried to keep him away from them, but he visits friends quite a bit and they have all been gaming for awhile--and he plays the games with them.) But this is ALL he wants to do. When I tried to distract him today to do something else, he threw a tantrum--which makes me want to totally take them away from him.

Mom to mom, I understand exactly what you are going through. Sit down with your son, explain that playing video games is great but that you would like him to try other activities as well. Set aside a specific time for video games( give it a try and join in!) This way your son understands that playing video games does have a time limit. If a tantrum is starting to brew, ( I just started doing this with my daughter sounds a little silly but it works
) tell your son to say thank you to the video game and wave good bye. This shifts the anger into something positive! It has worked miracles for my little girl!
