My son 19, still wears braces because he missed his appointments. Each time he missed an appintment we had to pay $25. Because he exceeded his original contract, we also have to pay $90 a month for ongoing appointments. He just missed another appointment. Any advice?

My suggestion is to help him feel the consequences of his actions (or inactions in this case). He's not feeling any of the effects of his choices. And isn't that what teaching kids to learn responsibility is all about, to prepare them for adulthood? Maybe for each time he misses any appointment he needs to do something at home to earn money to pay for part of that appointment. Unless and until he feels any personal pain in this process he won't "get" it.
Good luck! |
